From One Car to Two: Our Journey becoming The Magic Kias

 

Welcome to The Magic Kias: Our Family Adventure Across the U.S.

We’re a homeschooling family of five, exploring the U.S. one adventure at a time! The Magic Kias are the perfect mix of luxury and outdoor adventure, all while being safe and gas-friendly for our family road trips.

Years ago, we had a 2018 Kia Sorento and a Jeep Wrangler, which seemed perfect for adventure. But the Jeep wasn’t gas-friendly nor kid-friendly for our growing family. Realizing we needed more space, we sold the Jeep—breaking even, which was a huge win!

For a couple of years, we were a one-car family, and it worked better than we expected. We got used to it, found joy in making it work, and focused more on experiences than stuff. Since our kids were babies, we've always taken them on road trips, and they've always loved their car seats. Our best advice? Start young and often—they'll learn to love it! 

Now, you're probably wondering how we ended up with two brand-new Kias. It was a spontaneous whirlwind. We walked into a dealership just to get a quote on a few upgrades for our 2018 Kia, but then we walked away with two new cars. They just spoke to us. Sounds cheesy, we get it.

Two new cars was never the plan but the captain seats sold us and having two new cars gave us the freedom to embark on more adventures, with the room to car camp, set up our rooftop tent, and enjoy the accessibility we needed for more family trips. 

Honestly, cramming all five of us into one car would be a disaster on a trip! We all need our space, and with just one car, car camping would be impossible. Plus, let’s be real—mom and dad have totally different car trip moods and music playlists. Having the extra space just makes the whole experience better!

From camping under the stars to staying in quirky roadside motels, we’re embracing the adventure and discovering new memories along the way. Follow along as we share tips, stories, and all the fun (and chaos) of traveling with a family of five in our magic Kias.
